KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 14, 2026) – Current Landing announced today that Providence Pizza, Kansas City’s celebrated East Coast-style pizzeria, will open a new location at the Missouri Riverfront development. Known for its sourdough-based dough, multiple regional pizza styles, and the philosophy of “No Crust Left Behind,” Providence brings more than a decade of craft and community to one of the city’s most anticipated new neighborhoods and culinary epicenters.
Founded by a Rhode Island native who grew up splitting Sundays between Italian family dinners and clam shack lunches on the coast, Providence was born out of a longing to bring those two worlds together. When the owner relocated to Kansas City in 2009, what followed was not a departure from that culture — it was a transplanting of it. Fifteen years later, the pizzeria has become a beloved fixture of the city’s food scene, earning national recognition and building a loyal following that spans generations and neighborhoods.
“I grew up on the east coast in one of the most densely Italian American cities in the country,” said Aaron Salvatore, the founder of Providence Pizza. “Moving to the Midwest in 2009 seemed like leaving locationally but also culturally. But what I have found here in Kansas City with my family is not all that much different than what I grew up with in Providence, RI. And now, with Current Landing, it feels good to be back near the water.”
The decision to expand to Current Landing was inspired by the energy and vision of the development itself. A KC Current match at CPKC Stadium made a lasting impression: electric, family-friendly, and a statement for women’s soccer on a global stage. The broader riverfront district, unlike any entertainment development Kansas City has pursued before, presented an opportunity too meaningful to pass up.
“The development along the river is unlike any other entertainment district Kansas City has embarked upon,” the founder added. “We feel privileged to be one of the restaurant groups this up-and-coming area has to offer the people of Kansas City and the surrounding areas.”
Providence’s approach to pizza begins at the foundation — literally. Every dough is built on a sourdough starter and blended from three flours, one sourced from Marion Milling, a local Kansas City miller. The dough is made fresh daily and cold-aged 48 to 72 hours for digestibility and depth of flavor. The result is a crust that is simultaneously the star and the vehicle: light, complex, and worth finishing.
The menu spans three perfected regional styles: New York, Detroit, and Sicilian — offered as whole pies or by the slice, true to the East Coast pizzeria tradition. Toppings lean on local sourcing wherever possible, including sausage from Italian Sausage Co. out of North Kansas City. Signature pies like the Wicked Rita — a Sicilian crust dressed in spicy vodka sauce, mozzarella, burrata, and fresh basil — and the East Coast — piled with sausage, bacon, mushrooms, ricotta, basil, and house-made hot honey — reflect the creativity and craft that have defined the brand since the beginning.
Last year, Providence placed in the top 15 best pepperoni slices at a National Pizza Competition, and the team was among the first to introduce Detroit-style pizza as a regular offering in Kansas City. The Current Landing location will carry all the staples — buffalo wings, garlic knots, cannolis — while also debuting new menu items exclusive to the riverfront, to be revealed via social media in the weeks leading up to opening this summer.
“Providence represents exactly the kind of authentic, story-driven restaurant that makes Current Landing special,” said Josh Goldman, managing director at Palmer Square Real Estate. “Their roots, their craft, and their commitment to every single guest align perfectly with the neighborhood we’re building here on the riverfront.”
